"True Blood" Gets Nod for Sixth Season » Gossip - After its tremendous success, HBO announced that they have renewed “True Blood” for a sixth season.

The vampire series is currently airing its fifth season, which premiered with more than six million viewers across both of its broadcasts.

Although the show will lose its main runner Alan Ball after this season’s finale, it is still expected to be one of the highest-rated cable shows in its Sunday slot.

The staple HBO vampire series, which stars Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer and Alexander Skarsgard, will still keep Ball on as executive producer, but Mark Hudis will take over showrunner duties for season six.

Hot New Trailer: Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn & Jonah Hill In ‘The Watch’ » Gossip

Hot New Trailer: Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn & Jonah Hill In ‘The Watch’ » Gossip - I first heard about Ben Stiller’s new movie in a not-too-pleasant way: they had to change the trailer because it was originally set to be released right around the time of the Trayvon Martin shooting. I think this trailer makes it pretty clear that ‘The Watch’ (which also stars Vince Vaughn and Jonah Hill) is very different from that tragedy.

‘The Watch’ is a sci-fi comedy: Ben, Vince, and Jonah (or rather, their characters) are looking out for some type of alien invasion. Does this look good to you? On one hand, I think all of these guys are funny. Sometimes the humor veers a little too much into adolescent boy territory, though. The premise of ‘The Watch’ alone makes me worried about that.

Keira Knightley’s “Anna Karenina” Trailer: Watch Now! » Gossip - She seems to love period pieces, so it’s no wonder Keira Knightley is brilliant in the new trailer for her forthcoming film “Anna Karenina.”

Also starring Jude Law, the much-anticipated flick is an adaptation of Leo Tolstoy’s work of the same name, and is directed by Joe Wright.

And with both a trailer and a poster being released, it seems “Anna Karenina” is already garnering buzz ahead of its November 9th limited release.

Per the synopsis, “The story unfolds in its original late-19th-century Russia high-society setting and powerfully explores the capacity for love that surges through the human heart, from the passion between adulterers to the bond between a mother and her children. As Anna questions her happiness, change comes to her family, friends, and community.”

Johnny Depp Honored with 2012 MTV Generation Award

He's been a mainstay in the world of cinema for years, and Johnny Depp was toasted at the 2012 MTV Movie Awards in Universal City, California on Sunday night (June 3).

After rocking the Gibson Amphitheatre venue stage during a performance with The Black Keys, the "Dark Shadows" star was then presented with the MTV Generation Award bestowed unto him by Aerosmith rockers Steven Tyler and Joe Perry.

During his acceptance speech, Johnny jokingly (we hope!) said, "I've got to thank MTV for this. This is quite an amazing honor, truly. It's like a get out of the business award. 'All right, you've done too much.' Clearly, based on the clips, there's nothing wrong with me."

The soon-to-be 49-year-old added, "I just thank you very much. And it's an honor to be presented by these two legends, Steve and Joe, and these up and coming legends, [The Black Keys], so thank you very much."

In receiving the network's top honor, Depp joins previous Generation Award honorees including Reese Witherspoon, Sandra Bullock, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Mike Myers, Tom Cruise and Jim Carrey.

The Avengers earned a mind-boggling $200.3 million on Friday and Saturday, blowing past Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows ($169.2 million) for the biggest opening weekend in Hollywood history.

The Avengers Super Bowl Commercial

Backed by incredibly positive reviews - as well as successful quasi prequels such as Iron Man and last summer's Captain America - The Avengers raked in $80.5 million on Friday and is on pace for a record Sunday, as well.

"It’s not playing like just a superhero film,” says Dave Hollis, Disney’s executive vice president of distribution. “It’s playing like a huge, accessible-to-everyone, all-quadrant picture.”

The film currently has a 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, an A+ from CineScore and is already ranked number-31 on IMDb’s user-ranked Top 250 Movies list.

Here is your look at the top five films from the weekend:
  • The Avengers: $200.3 million

"The Avengers" Record-Breaking $200.3 Million Debut

Just like Captain America tells the Incredible Hulk to do in the film “The Avengers”, the superhero flick smashed the domestic revenue record with a $200.3 million debut this weekend.

The Marvel Comics combination is by far the largest opening in movie history surpassing the previous record of $169.2 held last year with the debut of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2,” followed by "The Dark Knight" in 2008 with a $158.4 million debut and "Spider-Man 3" in 2007 with $151.1 million.

It earned $80.5 million on Friday (May 4), which is the second-highest single day take of all time and Saturday's (May 5) earning of $69.7 million is the highest Saturday of all time. Out of the 4,349 locations in North America, it averaged $46,063 per theater.

After just 12 days of release, it will gross more than $600 million from its combined global box office sales, which is more than its Marvel superhero forerunners "Iron Man," ''Iron Man 2," ''Thor" and "Captain America" took in during their entire runs.

"There aren't even words, to be honest. I'm running low on double takes. Every time we looked at a number, it just got bigger than what we could have hoped for in the best-case assumption," said Dave Hollis, Disney's head of distribution. "With this film, this weekend, anything is possible."

“The Avengers” is just the beginning for a summer filled with superhero madness, while “The Amazing Spiderman” and “The Dark Knight Rises” are set to release in July.

"If 'The Avengers' is any indication, we're going to see a leap rather than a gentle little nudge into new territory, and the lineup is there to justify it going forward," said Greg Foster, chairman and president of the IMAX cinema chain.

The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth and Samuel L. Jackson.

Box Office: "The Avengers" Soars to Second Biggest Weekend EVER!

Living up to the massive hype with beyond-impressive numbers, "The Avengers" is situated atop the box office with year's best earnings to begin the weekend of May 4-6, 2012.

The Joss Whedon directed superhero blockbuster boasting an all-star cast including Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans and Chris Hemsworth blazed out of the gates with a whopping $80.5 million in ticket sales on Friday which sets the projected opening weekend at $175 million - the second highest ever only behind the $169 million record held by "Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part 2".

Getting knocked into the runner-up position is last weekend's triumphant film "Think Like a Man," as the Steve Harvey book-based comedy starring Meagan Good and Gabrielle Union nabbed $2.6 million on Friday with an anticipated weekend pull of $8.0 million.

Rounding out the top five at the box office in estimated totals are the Jennifer Lawrence starring blockbuster "The Hunger Games" ($6.7 million), followed by the Zac Efron and Taylor Schilling fronted drama "The Lucky One" ($6 million) and a tie for fifth place between Judd Apatow's "The Five-Year Engagement" and Peter Lord & Jeff Newitt's animated tale "The Pirates! Band of Misfits" ($5.9 million).

Scarlett Johansson Talks “The Avengers” Fun

Her new flick “The Avengers” just grossed $18.7 million during last night’s midnight showings, and Scarlett Johansson had a blast making the superhero film.

During her interview with Ryan Seacrest, the Black Widow babe shared some of the good times she had on the set, especially during the down time.

Scarlett confessed, “Most of the time we just played how long can you hold the ice to your bruise game. We did actually play Dance Dance Revolution.”

She continued, “There so many videotapes like Tom Hiddleston and I doing the Macarena or something, from the back it’s absolutely absurd. You get so frenzied when you’re playing that game, you want to win it so bad you lose yourself completely.”

Ms. Johansson also discussed the pressure she felt to make the best movie possible. “There’s a lot of expectation from the fans to deliver. I’ve seen the film a couple of times and I don’t want to sound overly enthusiastic about it, but I can’t help it, I think it’s pretty awesome and people are responding really, really well to it. So, I hope the fans enjoy it as much as all of us do.”

“We’ve been kind of touring the globe with the film now, the fans are just like absolutely rabid, globally. They love these characters…people feel nostalgic about these characters and they just get so involved in the universe and it’s a really fun kind of fantasy for people to get lost in. But the fans are very passionate.”
